Argentinian-born Rabbi Yosef Bitton, former Chief Rabbi of Uruguay, is known as one of the leading rabbis in the Sephardic world. In between receiving his ordination as a Dayan from Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, Rabbi Bitton pursued academic studies at Yeshiva University and at Ben Gurion, Bar-Ilan and Emory. He has been a community rabbi and leader for more than 25 years in Buenos Aires, Montevideo, and he is currently the rabbi of Shaare Rachamim congregation in Great Neck, New York. He has his first degree in the Hebrew language, Biblical studies, and Talmud. He also studied at the graduate department of the Hebrew University and in the doctoral department at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.

PUBLICATIONS

His first book was  «Analisis Talmúdico de la Cenicienta» (“A Talmudic analysis of the story of Cinderella”).   His best-known book is “AWESOME CREATION” (English, 2013,  https://a.co/d/a5UKiUD ),  a rigorous and highly original analysis of the first three verses of Genesis, Genesis Chapter 1, verses 1-3,  based on the understanding that “the Torah and the physical world are two books written by the same Author “. This book has been translated into Spanish with the title «Creación» and into Portuguese“Deciphering Criação. Um Estudo Sobre os Três Primeiros Versicles da Bíblia» . Bitton now completed his new book on creation called: “Dinosaurs in the Bible” on Genesis Chapter 1, Verses 20-22.   The book has been published in Portuguese («Decifrando a criação da vida: os dinossauros e a Bíblia» ) and soon to be published in English and Spanish.  Bitton also published in 2018 “Forgotten Giants, the story of 26 Sephardic Rabbis, before and after the expulsion from Spain.
